AW/T129 PROGRAM
In the 1980s, the “Mangusta” Program represented
a fundamental opportunity for developing the line of
helicopters’ role equipment, now evolved in multiple
variants qualified on a wide range of platforms in service in
many countries.
DESCRIPTION
As an integrated project of a pure military platform,
Mangusta’s greater complexity demanded a significant
step forward compared to previous AEREA experience in
developing the “Defense Conversion System” (DCS) kits
of components dedicated to weaponization of helicopters
otherwise available in their utility version, such as MBB’s
BO-105.
Within the framework of the AW129 program, we perfected the design of our lightweight electro-mechanical gravityrelease unit and the modular structure of our 7- and 19- tube rocket launchers, laying the foundations for families of products still current today.

Thanks to the growth potential embedded in the original
projects, we succeeded in supporting the evolution of the
T129 “ATAK” variant, a joint effort of Leonardo Helicopters
Division and Turkish Aerospace.
